A Shallow Rose Set Flat to the Ceiling

Some rooms need light without any drop at all, and this large flush fitting is Hutchinson's answer, sitting just 22cm proud of the ceiling while still carrying the full 50cm Mackintosh rose shade that defines the range. It is the flattest way to bring this glasswork into a room.

Choosing Your Hutchinson

This flush fitting shares its 50cm shade with the large pendant and large inverted versions in the range, but where those hang on a chain, this one sits directly against the ceiling. Choose it for rooms with genuinely low ceilings, or anywhere a hanging fitting would feel out of scale. For a smaller shade in the same flush format, the Hutchinson Medium 2 Light Flush Fitting uses a 40cm shade instead.

How It Works

Two E27 lampholders sit behind the glass, each rated up to 60W, with an LED lamp recommended for day to day use. The fitting is dimmable with a suitable dimmable lamp and dimmer switch, and the whole piece weighs 3.0kg once fitted.

Where It Works Best

With no chain and a shallow ceiling to tip measurement of 22cm, this is the Hutchinson to choose for a room with restricted height, such as an attic conversion, a landing with sloped ceilings, or a period room where the original ceiling height was never generous. The two lamps give a fuller spread of light across the shade than a single bulb flush fitting would manage.

Interiors 1900 has been making decorative lighting since 1983, when handmade Tiffany style lamps were the whole of the business. Solid brass and crystal ranges followed over the next forty years, but the brand's name, a nod to the turn of the twentieth century, still describes the aesthetic running through pieces like this one. Every shade is built from individual pieces of coloured glass, leaded together by hand, so no two shades are ever completely identical.
