A compact classic for smaller entrances

This is the smallest lantern in Hinkley's Trellis collection, but it keeps every detail that defines the range. Dense seeded glass, a substantial scroll arm and a cast loop finial all appear here in a single light size built for a narrower porch, a side door or any entrance where a full size Trellis lantern would simply be too much.

Regency Bronze finish

The frame is mild steel, finished in Regency Bronze, paired with seeded glass panels that give it real depth and texture. The warm bronze tone and true rivet detailing give this smaller fitting the look of a traditional, hand forged lantern, and it pairs naturally with brick, render or painted timber.

How it works

This is a single light wall lantern that takes 1 x E27 LED bulb, which is not supplied, so you will need to order one separately. It is a Class I fitting, which means it requires earthing. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. Once wired in, it will dim as long as a dimmable bulb is fitted.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, this lantern is built for outdoor use in a covered spot, such as under a porch canopy, beside a front door or along a sheltered side entrance. It is not designed for a fully exposed position with no cover overhead. Its compact size makes it a good fit for cottages, terraced houses and any entrance where space is tight.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, founded by Phil R. Hinkley with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. This little Trellis lantern sits firmly in that original tradition. After Phil became ill with tuberculosis in the mid 1930s, he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, and Stanley bought the remainder and moved his family to Cleveland after Phil's death in 1937. Stanley's grandson Rick joined the company in 1969, beginning a career there that spanned 50 years, and the fourth generation of the Wiedemer family began taking on leadership roles around 2000. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's outdoor designs, including this Trellis lantern, for the UK market, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.

Questions People Ask

Is this lantern dimmable? Yes. It takes a dimmable E27 LED bulb, and it will dim as long as a dimmable bulb is fitted. A standard, non dimmable LED bulb will not dim, even on a dimmer circuit.

Does it come with a bulb? No. It takes a single E27 LED bulb, which is not included, so you will need to add one to your order.

Where can I fit this lantern? It is IP44 rated, so it suits a covered outdoor spot such as a porch, canopy or sheltered side door. It is not intended for a fully exposed position with no cover overhead.

Do I need an electrician to install it? Yes. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting, regardless of its electrical class.
