The Hinkley Taper LED Wall Lantern in 380mm reworks the traditional lantern shape into a clean, tapered silhouette with the LED built straight into the fitting. Instead of throwing a hard beam, it washes a soft, even light down the wall below it, giving a contemporary alternative to a period style porch light in a compact 380mm size.

Textured Black for a finish that lives outdoors

This variant comes in Textured Black over a weather resistant composite body, with a glass diffuser fitted over the integrated LED. The matte black sits well against render, brick and timber cladding, and against most dark door furniture. It is a finish chosen to stand up to the outdoors, not just to look good on the day it is fitted.

How it works

Taper runs on one integrated 8W LED light source, producing around 650 lumens of warm white 3000K light with a colour rendering index above 80. There is no separate bulb to buy or replace over the life of the fitting, and it is not dimmable, so it works on a standard on and off switch or circuit. It wall mounts directly onto an exterior wall and wires into your household electrics. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It is a Class I fitting, which means it needs an earth connection.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started out in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products, so a compact outdoor wall lantern like Taper sits close to where the company began. Founder Phil Hinkley sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, in the mid 1930s, and Stanley bought the rest and moved his own family to Cleveland to run the company after Phil's death in 1937. Four generations of the Wiedemer family have led Hinkley since, from Rick Wiedemer Jr, who joined in 1969, through to today's leadership of Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley's designs, Taper included, for UK and European wiring and full CE certification.
