A compact nautical wall lantern

The Hinkley Reef Single Mini Wall Lantern brings a contemporary nautical shape to a smaller scale, built around a capsule of inside etched glass held by bold rings of cast aluminium. This Hematite version gives the shape a dark, graphic edge, and the compact mini size means it still works where space by a door or along a wall is tight.

Hematite finish and materials

Reef is made from etched glass paired with cast aluminium, finished in Hematite for a dark, almost graphite tone. The etched glass softens the light from within, while the aluminium rings give the fitting its structure and a slightly industrial, coastal look that suits both modern and traditional exteriors.

How it works

This lantern takes one E27 LED bulb, which isn't supplied, so you'll need to add one to your order. It's dimmable if you fit a dimmable bulb. Reef is wired to Class I, which means it requires an earth connection. It mounts straight to an exterior wall using the fixing plate provided. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where it works best

Reef is IP44 rated, so it copes well with rain and splashing. That makes this mini wall lantern well suited to a porch, front door, side passage or any exposed spot on an exterior wall. Its compact scale also means it works well where a full sized lantern would look too heavy, such as either side of a narrower doorway.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley founded the company in Cleveland, Ohio, as a small maker of outdoor lanterns, debuting with a catalogue of just 14 products. That original focus on lighting for the outside of the home still runs through ranges like Reef today, a century on. After Phil died in 1937, Stanley Wiedemer, who had already bought half the business a couple of years earlier, took over the remaining half and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run the company. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings such as this Hematite Reef lantern to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
