A statement chandelier in burnished brass
The Plantation 5 Light Chandelier in Burnished Brass takes the collection's cast metalwork, shaped like leaves along each arm, and pairs it with a warmer, brighter brass tone than the nickel and bronze versions. Five arms carry pineapple shaped optic glass shades around a central column, and at 62.2cm high and 56cm wide this is a substantial piece, built to be seen as a whole rather than fitted into a small space. Burnished brass is a hand finished surface, so expect some natural variation in tone from one piece to the next, and bear in mind that screens don't always show metal finishes exactly as they look in person.
Solid brass and optic glass
This chandelier is made from solid brass and glass, with cast metalwork shaped like leaves worked into each of the five arms. The burnished finish gives it a bright, slightly antiqued brass tone that sits well against darker walls, wood furniture, or a neutral scheme where the metalwork can stand out. The same pineapple shaped clear optic glass shades run through the whole Plantation collection, so this piece will sit comfortably alongside other Plantation fittings finished in nickel or bronze.
How it works
Five arms extend from a central column, each holding an optic glass shade and taking one E27 bulb, so you'll need five bulbs in total and they are not included. The fitting is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, though it won't dim with standard ones. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It's a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed.
Where it works best
A five arm chandelier of this scale suits a dining room, large hallway, living room, or kitchen with enough ceiling height to let the brass and glass be seen properly rather than crowded close to the ceiling. Given its size and weight, it works best as the single focal fitting in a room rather than one of several.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started out making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, from a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman, bought into the business during Phil's illness in the mid 1930s and took it over fully after Phil died in 1937, moving his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it. His grandson Rick joined in 1969 for a career that spanned 50 years, and by around 2000 the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess, and Eric Wiedemer, were taking on leadership roles of their own. A five arm chandelier like this one, with its cast brass detailing, shows how far that original fourteen product catalogue has grown, and since 2012 Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted designs like it for the UK, converting fittings to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
