The Hinkley Plantation 1 Light Medium Wall Lantern in Burnished Bronze is the mid sized lantern in the Plantation range, made for a front door, porch or driveway entrance that needs a bit more presence than the smallest lantern in the collection. It stands 54.1cm high, 20.3cm wide and 27.5cm deep, with a single light source behind a pineapple shaped amber optic glass panel.

Burnished bronze and cast aluminium

This burnished bronze finish is a warm, textured bronze tone over cast aluminium, chosen to hold up outdoors. Inside, the etched amber optic glass scatters the light rather than sending out a flat beam, so the lantern reads as a warm glow rather than a bare bulb. It pairs naturally with brick, stone or painted render, and suits both traditional and more updated house fronts.

How it works

This lantern takes a single E27 bulb, which is not included, so you will need to add one to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. The fitting is Class I, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It comes with a wall mounting plate and fixings, and may need some simple assembly on arrival.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, this lantern is weatherproof enough for covered outdoor spots such as beside a front door, on a porch, or at a gated entrance. It should not be mounted where it will take a direct jet of water or driving spray. As a wall lantern for outdoor porches and doorways, it works well in pairs, one on each side of a door, or as a single fitting marking an entrance or driveway.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started the company in Cleveland, Ohio, as a small maker of outdoor lanterns, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. That outdoor lantern lineage runs right through to lanterns like this one, built for life beside a front door rather than indoors. After Phil died in 1937, Stanley Wiedemer took full ownership of the business and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it, the start of three generations of continuous family leadership. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings such as this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
