It is dimmable, but only when fitted with a dimmable LED bulb and paired with a compatible dimmer switch. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, when Phil R. Hinkley launched the company with a debut catalogue of just 14 designs. After Phil's death in 1937, Stanley Wiedemer, who had already bought half the business a few years earlier, took full ownership and moved his family from Kansas City to Cleveland to run it. His grandson Rick Wiedemer joined the company in 1969 and went on to spend fifty years there, part of a family line that still leads the business today. A design as understated as this Brushed Nickel Meridian wall light is a long way from those first lanterns, and the company itself has grown too, simplifying its name from Hinkley Lighting to simply Hinkley as it expanded beyond lighting alone. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has adapted Hinkley designs like this one for UK homes, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
