The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a first catalogue of just fourteen products. After Phil's death in 1937, Stanley Wiedemer, who had bought into the business a few years earlier, took full ownership and moved his family to Cleveland to run it, beginning three generations of Wiedemer stewardship that took the company from those early lanterns to fittings as pared back as the Dax. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring and full CE certification, which is how a design developed in Ohio ends up wired and certified for a British wall.
