The Bolla single light wall torchiere is built around a sweeping curved arm, tipped with a solid sphere that gives it real presence on the wall. Finished in brushed nickel, it works as an uplighter, throwing light up and across the ceiling rather than down into the room, for a softer, more ambient glow than a standard wall light gives. A bell shaped glass shade keeps a traditional profile while the clean lines of the arm bring a more contemporary edge.

A brushed nickel finish that suits almost any room

Brushed nickel has a soft, understated sheen rather than a bright, polished shine, so the sweeping arm reads as sculptural rather than flashy. The Bolla is made from glass and mild steel, and the brushed nickel finish pairs easily with warm woods, painted walls and other nickel or chrome fittings nearby. The same design is also available in a chrome finish if you would rather have a brighter, more reflective look.

How it works

This is a single light wall fitting that takes one E27 LED bulb, which isn't supplied so you will need to add one to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, so you can bring the light level up or down to suit the room. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It is rated Class I, which means it needs to be properly earthed.

Where it works best

Because it throws light upward rather than straight down, the Bolla suits rooms where you want a gentle wash of ambient light rather than a strong task beam. It works well in hallways, living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens, either side of a fireplace, along a landing, or as a softer alternative to an overhead pendant above a dining table.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley began in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley started making outdoor lanterns in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products. Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman from Kansas City, bought half the business in the mid 1930s and took over fully after Phil's death in 1937, moving his family to Cleveland to run the company. His grandson Rick Wiedemer joined in 1969, beginning a career that went on to span fifty years, and by around 2000 the fourth generation, Kristi, Jess and Eric Wiedemer, had started taking on leadership roles of their own. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs, including this Bolla torchiere, for the UK market, converting them to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
