A large sculptural centrepiece with five sweeping arms
The Bolla 5 Light Chandelier arranges five of the collection's sweeping double arms around a central frame, each tipped with a heavy decorative sphere. Bell shaped glass shades soften the light while the Brushed Nickel finish keeps the overall look contemporary rather than ornate. This is also a genuinely large fixture, with a drop that adjusts from 71.5cm up to 224cm and a width of 61cm, so it makes a real statement in a room with the height and space to suit it.
Brushed Nickel finish
Brushed Nickel gives Bolla a cool, contemporary tone that works equally well in traditional and more modern interiors. The frame is mild steel finished in Brushed Nickel, paired with bell shaped glass shades that soften and diffuse the light. The same design is also available in Chrome, if you would prefer a brighter, more reflective finish.
How it works
Bolla takes 5 x E27 LED bulbs, which are not included, so you will need to add five to your order. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, but not otherwise. The fitting is Class I. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.
Where it works best
With five arms and this kind of scale, Bolla works best somewhere with room to appreciate it: over a dining table, in a double height hallway, or in an open plan living or kitchen space. Its adjustable drop makes it easy to set the right height once you know the ceiling you are working with.
The story behind Hinkley
Hinkley began in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just 14 products. A fixture as sculptural and multi armed as Bolla shows how far the brand has grown since then. When Phil Hinkley became ill with tuberculosis in the mid 1930s, he sold half the business to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman visiting from Kansas City. Stanley bought the remaining half after Phil's death in 1937 and moved his own family to Cleveland to run the company. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
