The Bingham medium wall lantern takes its shape from a traditional gas light, with a vintage, nautical edge that nods to Hinkley's own beginnings as a maker of outdoor lanterns. This Sienna finish version is built for three lamps, giving it a fuller spread of light than the smaller lanterns in the Bingham range, and it is designed to live outside on a porch, entrance or garage wall.

A warm, aged brass finish

Bingham is made from solid brass and finished in Sienna, a warm, slightly aged brass tone that suits traditional and coastal exteriors alike. Clear seedy glass panels add a little texture and age to the light itself, without looking artificially distressed. It sits comfortably against painted timber, exposed brick or natural stone.

How it works

This medium lantern takes three E14 candelabra bulbs, which aren't included, so you'll need to add your own before fitting it. It's dimmable if you use bulbs that are themselves dimmable. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed as part of installation. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started life in 1922, when Phil R. Hinkley set up in Cleveland, Ohio, making little else but outdoor lanterns, a debut catalogue of just fourteen products in total. Bingham sits squarely in that original tradition, a classic outdoor lantern rather than a later addition to the range. The company stayed a family concern for decades, first under Stanley Wiedemer, who bought into the business during the 1930s, and later under his descendants. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has produced Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, rewiring fittings like this one for 220 to 240V and giving them full CE certification.
