Oil Rubbed Bronze and Heritage Brass

The body is die-cast aluminium finished in a deep, textured Oil Rubbed Bronze, with Heritage Brass detailing picking out the frame around each glass panel. Together they read as more architectural than a single tone lantern, while still sitting comfortably against brick, render or painted timber. The four sided bevelled glass panels are clear, so they let more light through than a seeded or frosted design would.

Bainbridge takes a single E27 LED bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one when you order. It's dimmable if you fit a dimmable LED bulb, though the fitting itself doesn't include a dimmer switch. This is a Class I fitting, which means it needs to be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting. It fixes flush to an exterior wall using a standard mounting plate.

The story behind Hinkley

Hinkley started out in 1922 as a small outdoor lantern maker in Cleveland, Ohio, with a debut catalogue of just fourteen products, so a piece like Bainbridge sits close to the company's original reason for existing. The business survived a genuine scare in the mid 1930s when founder Phil Hinkley became seriously ill and sold half the company to Stanley Wiedemer, a travelling salesman who later bought the rest and moved his family to Cleveland to keep it running. That family stewardship carried through three more generations of Wiedemers. Since 2012, Elstead Lighting has manufactured and adapted Hinkley's designs for the UK and Europe, converting fittings like this one to 220 to 240V wiring with full CE certification.
