Harte Classic Railway Style 1.49m Lamp Post - Cast Iron, Steel & Copper Head

Standing at 1.49 metres, this is the copper headed version of Harte's Station Master lamp post, a range of outdoor lights drawing on the lamps once used on Irish railway platforms in the late 1800s. Built from cast iron and galvanised steel with a copper head, it brings a small note of contrast to a design otherwise finished in gloss black, well suited to a modest garden or entrance where every detail is seen up close.

Cast iron, steel and a copper head

The main body of the post is cast iron and galvanised steel, painted in gloss black as standard, with other colours available on request. The head, the cap that sits over the light source, is copper, left in its own tone rather than painted, so it reads as a distinct material against the dark iron below. Harte says the cast iron and steel elements carry a lifetime guarantee against cracking, bending or breaking under normal conditions; this guarantee covers the iron and steel components specifically and does not extend to the copper head, in line with Harte's stated exclusions for copper and aluminium parts.

How it works

Light spreads out through a cylindrical, polycarbonate glazed shade, and the copper head above it functions as the ornate cap, enclosing the light source and directing the glow downward to limit glare and stray light upward. It needs a mains wiring connection and a fixed base, and we'd recommend a qualified electrician for the wiring.

Where it works best

At 1.49 metres, this is the shortest post in the range, so it suits spots where people pass close by, either side of a front door, along a short path, or at the corner of a small courtyard, where the copper head sits at a height to actually be noticed rather than lost against the sky.

This lamp post is made by Harte Outdoor Lighting, a family run manufacturer based in New Ross, County Wexford, producing cast iron outdoor lighting since 1983, founded by Willie Harte and now carried on by Liz Harte and the next generation.
