The Harborne pendant keeps its classic rounded dome shape, but this version is finished in Soot with a high gloss surface that catches and bounces light rather than absorbing it. A slim band of natural copper runs around the rim where the dome meets its white interior, a small detail that only shows once you're looking up into the shade.

Solid Copper, Finished in Soot

The dome is hand spun from a single sheet of solid copper, then coated in a dark grey Soot finish with a glossy, reflective surface. Unlike a matte or hammered finish, this glossy Soot picks up highlights from the room around it, so the shade never reads as flat black even though it's a dark colour. The exposed copper rim at the opening is left in its natural tone, giving a warm edge to an otherwise cool, moody colour.

How It Works

From The Anvil

From The Anvil began in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and started hand forging his own hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products, and the business went on to relocate to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, growing into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware that still hand forges steel and hot forges brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. The Harborne's copper dome is a direct product of that hot forging process, shaped and finished at the same Welsh workshop before it takes on its Soot coating.
