This Hockley is finished in a cool toned slate grey, a mid grey with a hint of blue, across the outer surface of the shade. Inside, it is fully polished in nickel, along with the neck fittings, so light bounces cleanly downward once lit. The shade itself is worked from solid brass, giving it real weight and a clean, unbroken cone with no visible seams or joins.

From The Anvil was founded in 1996 when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting became part of the range later, produced at the same Welsh workshop. That same hand forged approach to brass shapes every Hockley shade, including this slate and nickel version, before it ever leaves Wales.
