Slate Grey Outside, Nickel Inside

The outer shell is finished in a matte Slate grey with a soft, almost chalky texture. Turn your eye to the inside of the shade and the finish changes completely, a smooth, mirror bright nickel that bounces light back down into the room. That contrast between the flat exterior and the reflective interior is what gives the Harborne its character, and it means the light thrown from the bulb feels brighter and more even than a plain painted shade would give you. The body is solid brass, hand finished rather than cast in bulk.

Where It Works Best

Hang one over a kitchen island or a small dining table where you want a single, clear pool of light. Because the shade is fairly compact, a row of two or three works well strung along a longer worktop or table too. It also suits a hallway or living room where you want a pendant with presence but not too much bulk overhead.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996 when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting became part of the range later, produced at the same Welsh workshop. The Harborne's brass body and nickel finish come out of that same hot forging process, carried out by hand rather than cast in bulk.

• What bulb does the Harborne pendant use? It takes a single LED bulb with an E27 fitting, rated at 6W maximum, which is not included.
• Is this pendant dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a compatible dimmable LED bulb, the Harborne will dim with a suitable dimmer switch.
