The Harborne pendant keeps its familiar rounded dome shape, but this version pairs a deep, matte Elan Black exterior with a smooth, polished nickel interior. Where the hammered versions of this shade scatter the light, the smooth nickel surface here throws it back in a clean, even glow. It is a confident, contemporary take on a design that started life as a factory light.

Elan Black and Smooth Nickel

The dome is hand spun from solid brass, then finished in two parts. The outside is coated in Elan Black, a deep matte black with almost no sheen, while the inside is left smooth and plated in nickel rather than left as raw or hammered brass. Once a bulb is switched on, that reflective interior bounces the light straight back down and out, giving a cooler, brighter glow than the warmer tone of an uncoated brass shade.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working with his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting became part of the range later, produced at the same Welsh workshop. This Harborne shade's nickel plated interior and Elan Black exterior are two more finishes carried out by hand at that same workshop, rather than a single colour applied by machine.
