The Flora pendant takes its shape from a single sweeping curve, spun into a wide, petal like shade with a rippling, wave edged rim rather than a straight or angled line. Hung on its own over a table or in a hallway, that flowing outline is what sets it apart from a plainer dome shade.

The Flock Finish in Matt White

This version is spun from solid brass and plated in a smooth nickel finish on the inside of the shade, so the underside stays bright and reflective once a bulb is fitted. The outside is coated in Flock, a chalky, matt white with a soft, almost fabric like surface rather than a painted gloss. Seen from below, the nickel interior throws the light back out in a clean, cool glow, while the matt white exterior keeps the outside of the shade quiet and pale against a ceiling.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working with his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting became part of the range later, produced at the same Welsh workshop. This Flora pendant's nickel plating and Flock coating are both applied by hand at that workshop, one shade at a time, before it ever reaches a customer's ceiling.

• Keep the finish looking its best with an occasional wipe from a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive or wet cleaners on the Flock exterior, which can mark the matt coating.

• What does the Flock finish actually feel like? It's a chalky, matt white coating on the outside of the shade, closer to a soft fabric texture than a painted gloss, and it stays pale rather than reflective.
• Is the inside of the shade a different finish to the outside? Yes. The inside is a smooth, polished nickel plate, while only the outer surface carries the matt white Flock coating.
• Does the Flora pendant come with a bulb? No. It takes one LED bulb rated up to 6W with an E27 fitting, and bulbs are sold separately.
• Can this pendant be dimmed? Yes, as long as it's fitted with a compatible dimmable LED bulb. A standard non dimmable bulb won't dim even on a dimmer circuit.
