Smooth Copper in Heath

Each shade starts life as solid copper, spun into its dome shape before being hand finished. The outside is coated in Heath, a deep, earthy green that reads more moss than bottle green, with a soft matte texture that catches light without shining. Turn it over and the copper is left bare and polished inside, so once a bulb is lit the warm metal throws a soft glow down and around the room. The cord grip and ceiling rose are painted to match, so the whole fitting reads as one considered piece rather than a shade bolted onto a generic fixing.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil began in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and started hand forging his own hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business later relocated to Llandrindod Wells in Powys and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting came later, made at the same Welsh workshop, and the Brindley's spun copper shade is a direct product of that same hot forging skill turned to a very different kind of ironmongery.
