A Bold Cone with a Twist of Colour

The Hockley pendant is one of From The Anvil's most recognisable shapes, a wide angled cone that throws light outward in a strong, architectural line. In Dusk, that shape gets a deep, twilight blue grey finish on the outside, while the inside stays bright polished brass. The contrast is the whole point, a quiet, matte exterior by day and a warm golden glow once the bulb is switched on.

Smooth Brass in Dusk

This is the smooth brass version of the Hockley, so the surface is clean and even rather than textured or hammered. The shade is finished in Dusk, a dark blue grey that reads almost charcoal in low light and takes on a cooler blue cast in daylight. Look up into the underside of the shade and you find the raw brass shining through, polished to a bright finish that bounces light back down into the room. The fitting above the shade and the ceiling rose are both finished in a dark bronze tone, so the whole piece reads as one considered object rather than separate parts.

Where It Works Best

The Hockley's scale and directional light make it a natural fit above a kitchen island or dining table, where you want light thrown down onto a surface rather than spread softly around a room. It works just as well as a single statement fitting in a hallway, or hung in a small cluster over a run of worktop. The Dusk finish suits darker, more tailored kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms, and sits comfortably alongside black, brass or dark wood fittings elsewhere in the room.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil began in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and started hand forging his own hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand itself launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business later moved to Llandrindod Wells in Powys and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting came later, made at the same Welsh workshop, and this Hockley pendant in Dusk is shaped and finished there by hand in exactly that way.
