From The Anvil Smooth Brass Flora Wall Light - Flock (Matt White)

The Flora wall light takes its shape from a single open petal, its edges softly waved as if caught mid ripple. Fitted on an adjustable brass arm, it throws a warm pool of light up the wall by day and glows gently from within after dark, the exposed bulb sitting just inside the curved shade.

This version comes in the Flock finish, a chalky matt white powder coating applied to the outside of the shade and the circular wall rose. Turn the shade over and the story changes completely. Its underside, along with the knuckle joints on the arm, is left in smooth, unlacquered brass, so the warm metal only shows itself once the light is switched on or viewed from below.

• Shade measures 217mm in diameter and projects 224mm out from the wall
• Wall rose measures 105mm in diameter and sits 20mm off the wall

• Dimmable, as long as you fit a dimmable bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch

Where It Works Best

The upward throw and adjustable arm make this a natural fit for a hallway or landing, where a single light needs to lift a whole wall. It works just as well as a bedside light in a bedroom, angled down for reading, or in pairs either side of a fireplace or mirror in a living room or dining room. In a kitchen, it suits a spot away from the hob, where its glow can do the work of a softer, secondary light. For a coordinated scheme, it also pairs naturally with other pieces from the Flora range.

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products, and the business later relocated to Llandrindod Wells in Powys, growing into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware. Steel is still hand forged and brass and copper still hot forged using traditional methods alongside modern engineering, and it is that same Welsh workshop that shapes and finishes every Flora shade, brass joint and wall rose on this light.
