A Flora Pendant With a Coastal Colour
The Flora pendant is one of From The Anvil's most distinctive shapes, a wide, flared shade with a soft undulating edge that catches the light as it turns. This version is finished in Upstream, a deep river blue that gives the piece a different character from its metal siblings, more coastal cottage than workshop iron.
Smooth Brass, Painted in Upstream Blue
Each shade starts as spun solid brass, shaped until the wavy hem forms naturally in the metal. The outer surface is then painted in a smooth, matte Upstream blue, while the inside is left in polished brass, so the light that spills out has a warm golden glow rather than a cool white one. The ceiling rose is finished to match the shade in blue, with the lamp holder and fittings left in a dark contrasting tone.
How It Works
- Takes one 6W maximum LED bulb with an E27 fitting, bulb not included.
- Dimmable when fitted with a compatible dimmable LED bulb.
- Supplied fully wired with a matching ceiling rose, fabric cable and all fixings needed for installation.
- Shade measures 500mm in diameter and 146mm in height. Ceiling rose measures 106mm in diameter and 20mm in height.
Where It Works Best
The Flora's wide spread suits a kitchen island or dining table, where the flared shade throws light outward across the surface below. Hung on its own, it also works well in a bedroom or living room as a statement piece over a console or reading corner, and its scale suits a hallway where one fitting can do the visual work of a whole ceiling.
From The Anvil
From The Anvil began in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and started hand forging his own hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products, and the business later moved to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, growing into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware. Steel is still hand forged and brass and copper still hot forged using traditional methods alongside modern engineering, and lighting like the Flora pendant is made at the same Welsh workshop. The Upstream blue on this shade shows that workshop's palette reaching beyond raw metal, without changing how the piece is actually built.
