The Brindley pendant takes on a completely different character in Soot. Its dark grey, almost charcoal exterior gives it a quieter, more contemporary look than the classic brass version, while a polished brass lining sits inside the shade, ready to glow warm gold once the bulb is lit. It's a single hand spun ceiling light with the same rounded, classic dome, but this finish suits a room that wants the industrial dome shape without an all brass look.

Solid Brass, Finished in Dark Grey Soot

Each shade starts life as a single sheet of solid brass, spun into shape and then coated in a matte dark grey Soot finish on the outside. The inside is left in polished brass, so the two finishes work together, cool and matte on the outside, warm and reflective within. Because the coating is applied by hand, expect small, natural variation in texture rather than a perfectly uniform factory sheen.

From The Anvil began in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier and started hand forging his own hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales alongside his wife Bernadette. The brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products, and the business has since grown into a family run manufacturer in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. This Brindley pendant, including its Soot finish, is spun and coated at that same Welsh workshop rather than mass produced.

Does the Soot finish cover the whole pendant?
No, only the outside of the shade is finished in dark grey Soot. The inside of the shade and the fittings stay in polished brass.

Will the Soot finish wear through to the brass over time?
It's designed to hold its dark grey colour with normal use. Avoid abrasive cleaning, which is the main way a coated finish like this can wear thin.

How low can this pendant be hung?
It comes with 1.5m of black fabric cable, and a qualified electrician can trim this to set the exact drop height needed for your ceiling.

Can more than one Brindley Soot pendant be hung together?
