A Directional Wall Light With Presence

The Brindley wall light is built to aim exactly where you need it. A double knuckle joint on the arm lets the shade tilt and swivel, so one fitting can wash a wall, light a headboard, or throw a warm pool over a console table. It reads as a factory task light at home in a more considered setting.

Hammered Nickel and Flock Matt White

This version is spun from solid brass, plated in nickel, then coated in a chalky Flock matt white finish for a soft, almost powdery surface. The moving joints and the rim of the shade stay in polished nickel, so metal shows through at every hinge point. Inside the shade, the nickel is hammered rather than smooth, and once the bulb is lit that texture catches the light and throws a gently dappled glow rather than a flat beam.

• Shade measures 139mm in diameter and 124mm high, with a 224mm projection from the wall. The round backplate is 105mm in diameter.
• Hardwired fitting, wired in by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Its narrow profile and adjustable head suit hallways and staircases where you need light without bulk, either side of a bed as a pair of reading lights, or in a kitchen or dining room where a directional wash is more useful than a flat overhead glow. It works equally well in a living room, angled onto a piece of art or a bookshelf.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand itself launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business later relocated to Llandrindod Wells in Powys and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting joined the range later, made at the same Welsh workshop, and the Brindley wall light carries that same hand finished character in its hammered interior.
