This single Brindley pendant is spun from solid brass and plated in nickel, then finished in a deep, matt Elan Black for a bold, graphic look overhead. It can be hung at different drop heights, so it works grouped in twos or threes above a kitchen island just as easily as it does hung singly over a dining table.

The outside of the shade wears a flat, matt black paint that reads as a strong graphic silhouette against a wall or ceiling. Turn it on and the effect flips. Inside, the shade is left in bare hammered nickel, so the light spills out warm and dappled rather than flat, and the cool, reflective interior catches every bulb it holds.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working with his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting joined the range later, made at the same Welsh workshop. This pendant's contrast of matt black paint over hammered nickel is applied by hand at that workshop, one shade at a time rather than as a single uniform run.
