A Directional Wall Light with Character
The Brindley wall light is built for direction. Two copper knuckle joints let the shade swivel and tilt, so you can point the light exactly where you need it, along a hallway, over a reading chair, or onto a piece of art. This version comes in Upstream, a deep river blue that sits over the light's solid copper body, with the copper left bare and hammered on the inside of the shade.
Solid Copper in Upstream Blue
Every Brindley shade starts as solid copper, shaped and hammered by hand before it takes its final colour. On this piece the outer surface is finished in Upstream, a matte, slightly muted blue with a soft texture to the touch. Inside, the copper is left uncoated and hammered, so the metal catches and scatters the light rather than reflecting it in one sharp line. The adjustable joints and wall backplate keep their natural copper tone, giving the whole fitting a warm, handmade contrast against the blue.
How It Works
- Two copper knuckle joints on the arm and backplate let the shade swivel and tilt for directional light.
- Wall mounted via a fixed backplate, screwed directly to the wall.
- Takes one 6W max LED E14 bulb (not supplied).
- Dimmable when fitted with dimmable LED bulbs.
- Shade measures 139mm diameter x 124mm high, with a 224mm projection from the wall. Backplate measures 105mm diameter x 20mm.
Where It Works Best
Because the shade can be angled, this wall light earns its place anywhere you need light pointed somewhere specific rather than spread evenly across a room. Either side of a bed, it works as a reading light without a bedside lamp taking up surface space. In a hallway it lights the way without a central pendant. It also suits a dining room or living room wall, angled down onto a sideboard or a favourite piece of furniture, and works just as well in a kitchen, angled over a worktop. For a coordinated scheme, pair it with the matching Brindley pendant.
From The Anvil
From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting became part of the range later, produced at the same Welsh workshop. The Brindley's solid copper shade is shaped and hammered using that same hot forging process, before it is finished by hand in Upstream blue.
