The Brindley wall light throws its light in one clear direction rather than washing a whole wall, thanks to a double knuckle joint arm that lets the shade tilt and turn once it's fixed in place. In this Flock finish the dome closes over a hammered copper interior, so the outside reads as a soft, chalky white and the inside catches the light in warm, uneven flecks of copper.

Each shade starts as a single sheet of solid copper, hand spun into shape and hammered by hand, then the outside is finished in Flock, a powder coated matt white with a slightly chalky, textured feel rather than a hard shine. The inside of the dome is left in its natural hammered copper, so switching the light on reveals a warm glow that the white exterior keeps hidden when it's off.

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products, and the business went on to relocate to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, growing into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware. Lighting became part of the range later, produced at the same Welsh workshop, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. The hammering on this Brindley's copper interior is done by hand at that workshop, which is why the pattern of dents varies slightly from one shade to the next.

Is this wall light dimmable?
Yes, as long as it's fitted with a dimmable LED bulb. A standard, non dimmable bulb won't allow the light to be dimmed even on a compatible dimmer circuit.

Does it come with a bulb?
No, bulbs are sold separately. The fitting takes one LED bulb with an E14 base, rated at 6W maximum.

Can the shade be angled after it's fixed to the wall?
Yes. The double knuckle joint arm lets the shade tilt and turn, so it can be aimed at a specific spot once it's mounted.

Why is the inside of the shade a different colour to the outside?
