A Cluster of Hand Hammered Copper, Cast in Dusk

The Brindley Cluster Pendant groups five dome shaped shades at staggered heights, each one hand hammered from solid copper. In this Dusk finish the outside of every shade is coated in a deep, muted blue grey, while the inside stays natural copper, so the hammered texture still catches the light once a bulb is switched on. Hung together over a table or in a stairwell, the cluster reads as one fitting rather than five separate lights.

The Dusk Finish

Dusk takes the warmth out of the copper on the outside of the shade and replaces it with a flat, twilight blue grey, almost the colour of the sky just after sunset. The rim and the inside of each dome are left in raw hammered copper, so the two finishes sit side by side on the same shade rather than blending into one colour. That contrast is most visible from below, where the copper reflects a warm glow against the cooler shell.

Where It Works Best

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products, and the business went on to relocate to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, growing into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware. Lighting became part of the range later, still produced at the same Welsh workshop, hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using the traditional methods the company was built on. This Brindley cluster is a direct result of that copper forging work, each shade shaped and finished by hand before it goes anywhere near a customer's ceiling.
