The shade is hand finished in a deep, matte black over solid brass, so the black sits as a true coating rather than a flat paint effect. Turn it over and the story changes completely. The inside is left in natural hammered brass, its surface covered in small, irregular dents from the hammering process. That texture catches and scatters the light rather than reflecting it evenly, giving the pendant a warm, dappled glow once it is switched on.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting became part of the range later, produced at the same Welsh workshop. The Hockley's hammered brass interior is a direct product of that hot forging process, shaped and textured by hand before the Elan Black coating is applied to the outer shade.
