A Statement Dome With a Warm Surprise Inside

The Harborne pendant keeps its classic curved dome shape, but this version plays two finishes against each other. From outside it reads as a quiet, dark grey shade. Look up underneath and the inside is solid hammered brass, catching and scattering the light in a way a plain shade never could.

The Soot Finish

Soot is a deep, almost charcoal dark grey that coats the outer surface of the dome in a flat, non reflective finish. It sits in contrast to the inner brass, which is left in its natural hammered state, each dimple catching the light differently depending on where you stand. The dome is spun from solid brass before the outer coating goes on, so the weight and the finish both come from the same hand forged base.

How It Works

• Takes one bulb, rated at 6W maximum LED with an E27 fitting (bulb not included).
• Dimmable when fitted with a compatible dimmable LED bulb.
• Supplied fully wired with a matching ceiling rose and all necessary fixings.
• Comes with 1.5m of black fabric cable as standard, so the drop height can be set to suit the room.
• Dome measures 400mm across and 270mm high, with a 120mm ceiling rose.

Where It Works Best

The dark grey exterior suits rooms that already lean toward black or charcoal fittings, where the hammered brass interior adds a warmer note once the light is switched on. It works well as a single drop over a dining table, in a hallway where the shade is seen from below, or in the kitchen. Grouped in twos or threes, it also suits a kitchen island or a run of pendants along a worktop.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand itself launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business later relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and has grown into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting became part of the range later on, produced at the same Welsh workshop. The Harborne's brass dome, hammered by hand before it takes on its Soot coating, is a direct example of that hot forging process at work.

• Does the Soot finish wear differently to a plain painted shade? It is a coating over solid hand forged brass, so any wear reveals brass beneath rather than a different colour of paint.
• Can I use a dimmer switch with this pendant? Yes, the Harborne pendant is dimmable as long as it is fitted with a dimmable LED bulb.
