Hammered Brass, Two Ways

The outside of the dome is smooth, polished brass, giving it a warm shine even before it is switched on. Inside, the surface is hand hammered, and that texture is what scatters the light into a soft, dappled pattern once a bulb is fitted. It is a small detail that changes the whole character of the light.

From The Anvil

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business later relocated to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. Lighting became part of the range later on, produced at the same Welsh workshop, and this hammered brass finish is a good example of that hand forged approach still at work today.
