The Brindley wall light in Elan Black gives an adjustable, directional fitting a bold, graphic look. The shade sits on an arm with two brass wing joints, one where it meets the wall plate and one just below the shade, so it can be tilted and turned to point the light exactly where it is needed.
The shade itself is finished in a deep matt black on the outside, while the inside is lined with hammered brass. Turn the light on and that hammered surface catches and scatters the glow, giving a soft, dappled wash of light rather than one hard beam. The same polished brass appears again on the rim, the wing joints and the circular wall plate, so the black and brass combination runs through the whole fitting rather than sitting on one part of it.

- The shade measures 139mm in diameter and 124mm high, with a projection of 224mm from the wall
- The circular wall rose is 105mm in diameter and 20mm deep
- Two brass wing joints on the arm let the head tilt and swivel independently of the wall plate
Where It Works Best
Its directional beam and compact wall rose make it a good fit for hallways, kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms alike. Because the light can be angled rather than fixed straight ahead, it works well either side of a mirror, above a console table, or flanking a fireplace in a scheme that leans contemporary rather than traditional.

From The Anvil was founded in 1996, when Mark Underhill, a former metalwork teacher and joiner, bought a small ironmongery supplier called MF Supplies and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The From The Anvil brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products. The business went on to relocate to Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and grew into a family run manufacturer of ironmongery, lighting and homeware, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. The Brindley wall light in Elan Black carries that same hand finished approach, with its matt black shade and hammered brass lining made at the same Welsh workshop.
