A Cluster of Hammered Brass Shades in Soot
The Brindley cluster pendant groups five to six hand spun brass shades together, each finished in Soot, a dark charcoal grey that sits over a hammered brass interior. Grouping several shades on one ceiling rose turns the single Brindley shape into a fuller, more dramatic ceiling light.
The Soot Finish
Soot is a dark grey exterior finish applied over solid brass, left hammered on the inside so the surface catches light unevenly rather than reflecting it flat. Once lit, each shade throws a soft, dappled glow through the hammered brass rather than a single hard beam.
How It Works
- Five to six shades supplied on staggered drops from a single ceiling rose.
- Dimmable when fitted with compatible dimmable LED bulbs.
- Each shade takes one LED bulb rated up to 6W with an E27 fitting, bulbs not included.
- Supplied fully wired with a matching ceiling rose and all the fixings needed to hang it.
- Needs at least 1500mm of drop below the ceiling rose to hang correctly.
Where It Works Best
Hung at staggered heights, the Brindley cluster works well above a dining table or kitchen island, or in a hallway with enough height to let the shades spread out. Its dark Soot finish suits a bedroom or living room that's already leaning into deeper tones rather than an all white scheme.
From The Anvil
From The Anvil started in 1996, when former metalwork teacher Mark Underhill bought a small ironmongery supplier and began hand forging his own range of hardware from a workshop in Mid Wales, working alongside his wife Bernadette. The brand launched in 2000 with around fifty handmade products and has since grown into a family run manufacturer based in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, still hand forging steel and hot forging brass and copper using traditional methods alongside modern engineering. This Brindley cluster is hand finished in Soot at that same Welsh workshop rather than produced as a single mass applied colour.

- Keep the finish looking its best with an occasional wipe from a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, which can wear through the Soot coating.

Is the Soot finish black or grey?
It's a dark grey rather than true black, with a hammered brass interior that shows through as warm gold once the bulbs are on.
Is this pendant dimmable?
Yes, as long as it's fitted with dimmable LED bulbs. Standard, non dimmable bulbs won't respond to a dimmer switch even if one is fitted.
