Flambeau South Beach Single Floor Lamp - Gold & Black

A striped floor lamp inspired by Miami's beachfront

The South Beach floor lamp draws on designer Paul Gruer's take on balmy breezes, white sands and palm trees swaying in the ocean air, translated into a black and putty striped stem topped with a shade edged in the same stripes and finished with gold palm leaf finials. A star shaped base, etched to resemble the cobblestone streets of the neighbourhood that gives the range its name, grounds the whole piece.

Gold and black finish

The black and putty stripes run through the stem and shade edge, giving the piece rhythm and movement, while the gold palm leaf finials add a warmer, more decorative accent at the top. The etched star shaped base is a detail worth seeing up close rather than tucked out of sight.

How it works

This is a freestanding floor lamp, so there's no wiring to worry about, just position it and plug it in. It doesn't come with a bulb, so you'll need to add one to your order before it's ready to use.

Where it works best

Its striped stem and etched base make it a natural conversation piece, well suited to a living room corner, beside a sofa, or in a hallway with room for its star shaped footprint. It's an indoor lamp throughout.

The story behind Flambeau

Since Elstead Lighting began manufacturing Flambeau's designs under licence in 2012, bringing them to the UK, Europe and Middle East, that's meant adapting Paul Gruer's American originals, like this South Beach floor lamp, for 220 to 240V wiring and full CE certification. Flambeau itself was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2000 by New Orleans businessman Joe McKearn, after he saw Gruer's work, a former fine jewellery designer, in a friend's design studio the year before. It's that same eye for a striking, statement piece that shaped South Beach's palm leaf and cobblestone detailing.
