Flambeau Phoenician Single Table Lamp

A layered table lamp with a Phoenician inspired finial

Phoenician builds up in layers, from silver leaf ball feet and a silver leaf disc, through a gold and black striped moulded undulating base, up a silver leaf metal stem to a black shade banded in gold leaf, finished with a moulded finial inspired by Phoenician design.

Silver leaf covers the feet, disc and stem, while gold and black stripes mark the base and gold leaf bands run around the black shade, giving the piece several finishes working together rather than just one. It suits an interior that already mixes metals and pattern, and it holds its own as a standalone piece on a plainer surface too.

How it works

This is a single light table lamp, and it doesn't come with a bulb, so you'll need to add one to your order. There's no wiring to worry about, it's ready to use once it's plugged into a socket.

Where it works best

With so much going on in its base and finial, Phoenician works best somewhere it'll be seen properly, a bedside table, a console, or a display shelf, rather than tucked into a corner. It's suited to indoor rooms throughout the home.

The story behind Flambeau

In 2011, Joe McKearn, the Louisiana businessman behind Flambeau, shared an airport shuttle to the Dallas Market Center with Jonathan Lucas, managing director of British manufacturer Elstead Lighting. The two got talking, ran into each other again on the same shuttle route six months later, and by 2012 Elstead was manufacturing Flambeau's designs under licence for the UK, Europe and Middle East, adapted for 220 to 240V wiring and CE certified. Flambeau itself had begun over a decade earlier, when McKearn licensed the sculptural designs of New Orleans designer Paul Gruer, and pieces like Phoenician, with its layered silver and gold leaf finishes, still carry that same appetite for detail.
