A Parisian style lantern for a front door

The Shepherd single large wall lantern is modelled on traditional Parisian gas lanterns, complete with a decorative shepherd's crook, a latched and hinged front door panel, and a combination of inner Case White glass and Clear Seeded outer glass designed to recreate the soft glow of vintage gas lighting. It's a genuine front door sized lantern, built to make more of a statement than the smaller sizes in the range.

Dark Weathered Zinc finish and composite build

The Dark Weathered Zinc finish gives it a muted, aged look that works with brick, stone and render alike, without looking too new or too shiny against an existing exterior. It's made from a weather resistant composite material rather than solid metal, chosen specifically for long term durability outdoors.

How it works

The front panel hinges open on its latch for access to the bulb, which isn't included, so you'll need to add one to your order. As with all outdoor fittings, we'd recommend a registered NICEIC electrician handles the installation and makes sure the wall mounting and cable entry are properly weathersealed.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, it's designed for covered outdoor spots such as porches, canopied entrances and outbuildings, rather than positions that are fully exposed to driving rain. Its larger scale suits a main front door, especially on bigger properties where a smaller lantern would look out of proportion.

The story behind Feiss

Murray Feiss founded his lighting business in the South Bronx in 1955, wiring imported European porcelain figurines into lamp bases and having his mother, Rose, hand sew the shades. Over three generations, that family run operation grew into one of America's best known decorative lighting names, its range spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, with its heritage now sitting within Visual Comfort & Co. Elstead Lighting has represented Feiss across the UK and Europe since 2012, adapting designs including this Shepherd lantern to 220 to 240V wiring. Shepherd takes its cues from traditional Parisian gas lanterns, reimagined here as a weather resistant outdoor fitting.
