A single drop take on an industrial classic
The Hobson single medium pendant scales the collection's industrial silhouette down to one drop, keeping the pivoting fitter and seeded glass shade that reference the working lamps of early twentieth century American factories. It is a more flexible fitting than the multi light chandelier version, suited to spots where a single, focused pool of light is what is needed.
Satin nickel finish
Finished in Satin Nickel, it has a cooler, more contemporary tone than the brass alternative, while keeping the same slightly worn, workshop inspired character. It suits kitchens with steel appliances, grey cabinetry or concrete surfaces, and equally works in a study or hallway looking for an industrial edge.
How it works
This pendant does not come with a bulb, so you will need to add one to your order, sized to sit comfortably within the seeded glass and pivoting fitter. As with all pendant fittings, we would recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation.
Where it works best
Being a single drop, medium sized pendant, it works well spaced along a run above a kitchen island or breakfast bar, hung singly over a small table, or used in twos and threes above a longer worktop. It is an indoor fitting, so it belongs in kitchens, dining spaces and living areas rather than anywhere exposed to the elements.
The story behind Feiss
The shades on Feiss’s earliest lamps were all hand sewn by Rose, mother of founder Murray Feiss, who built the business in the South Bronx in 1955 around imported European porcelain figurines wired into lamp bases. Three generations of the same family grew that small operation into one of America’s best known decorative lighting names, its range eventually covering chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, and the design heritage now sits within Visual Comfort & Co. Elstead Lighting has represented Feiss across the UK and Europe since 2012, adapting collections including Hobson for 220 to 240V electrical systems. Hobson draws directly on the industrial utility lighting of early twentieth century American factories and workshops, shown here in its single drop form.
