A single drop take on an industrial classic
The Hobson single medium pendant brings the collection's industrial character down to a single drop, keeping the pivoting fitter and seeded glass shade that nod to the working lamps of early twentieth century American factories. It is a more adaptable option than the multi light chandelier, suited to spots that call for one focused pool of light rather than a spread of three.
Aged brass finish
In Aged Brass, the fitting takes on a warm, lightly weathered tone that plays up its workshop origins rather than smoothing them over. It suits kitchens with reclaimed wood, warm toned cabinetry or exposed brick, and works just as well in a hallway or study looking for a bit of vintage character.
How it works
This pendant does not come with a bulb, so you will need to add one to your order, sized to sit comfortably within the seeded glass and pivoting fitter. We would always recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation of any pendant fitting.
Where it works best
As a single drop, medium sized pendant, it suits being spaced along a run above a kitchen island or breakfast bar, hung on its own over a small table, or grouped in twos or threes above a longer worktop. It is an indoor fitting, at home in kitchens, dining spaces and living areas rather than anywhere exposed to the weather.
The story behind Feiss
Murray Feiss set up his lighting business in New York's South Bronx in 1955, wiring imported European porcelain figurines into lamp bases and turning to his mother, Rose, to hand sew the shades. Over three generations, that family run venture grew into one of America's best known decorative lighting names, its range eventually spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, and today its heritage sits within Visual Comfort & Co. Elstead Lighting has represented Feiss in the UK and Europe since 2012, adapting designs such as this Hobson pendant to 220 to 240V wiring. Hobson takes its lead directly from the industrial utility lighting of early twentieth century American factories and workshops, seen here in its single drop form.
