A freestanding lantern to mark a path or garden entrance
The English Bridle medium pedestal takes the collection off the wall entirely, a freestanding post lantern built to mark a path, driveway edge or garden entrance rather than light a doorway. Three lights sit behind clear seeded glass at the top of the post, giving an even, welcoming glow at a scale suited to smaller gardens and shorter driveways.
British Bronze finish
British Bronze gives this pedestal a warm, weathered brown finish that sits naturally among planting and gravel rather than standing out starkly against it. It is a colour that ages well outdoors and works with most garden settings.
How it works
This pedestal takes three bulbs, none of which are included. As a freestanding fitting, it needs a solid base or plinth fixing into the ground rather than a wall bracket, along with buried, weatherproofed cabling run out to the fitting. We would always recommend a registered NICEIC electrician for this kind of outdoor groundwork.
Where it works best
With an IP44 rating, confirmed for this style of fitting across the English Bridle range, it is built for open outdoor positions such as a garden path, driveway edge or entrance, rather than needing the shelter a wall lantern or porch light would. It works well marking the start of a path or lining a shorter driveway.
The story behind Feiss
The Feiss design heritage today sits within Visual Comfort & Co., with Elstead Lighting representing the brand across the UK and Europe since 2012 and adapting its designs, English Bridle included, for 220 to 240V electrical systems. It's a long journey from 1955, when Murray Feiss set up a small lighting workshop in the South Bronx, wiring imported European porcelain figurines into lamp bases while his mother Rose hand sewed the shades. Over three generations, that workshop became one of America's best known decorative lighting names, spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings. English Bridle carries the English countryside into that legacy, its coach lantern styling borrowed from a traditional stately manor and offered in British Bronze or Black.
