A grand hanging lantern for a porch or veranda
The English Bridle large chain lantern takes the collection's hanging lantern design and scales it up, a genuinely substantial three light fitting meant for a grander porch, veranda or covered walkway where a bigger piece can hang with room to spare. Clear seeded glass fills the paned frame, echoing the stately manor character of the rest of the range.
Black finish
The Black finish on this larger hanging lantern gives it a strong, confident outline, well suited to a grander porch where the fitting is meant to be seen rather than blend into the background.
How it works
This larger hanging lantern takes three bulbs, none of which are included. As with the smaller chain lantern, it needs a secure ceiling or bracket fixing rather than a wall mount, and given its size we would recommend a registered NICEIC electrician confirms the fixing point can take the weight before installation.
Where it works best
With an IP44 rating, confirmed for this style of fitting across the English Bridle range, it is built for covered outdoor spots, ideally a generous porch, veranda or covered walkway where a hanging lantern of this size has room to swing gently without becoming a hazard. It is not intended for fully open, unsheltered positions.
The story behind Feiss
Imported European porcelain figurines, wired into lamp bases and finished with shades hand sewn by Rose Feiss, were the starting point for the lighting business her son Murray founded in the South Bronx in 1955. Three generations on, that business had become one of America's best known names in decorative lighting, its range spanning chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, with the Feiss design heritage now sitting within Visual Comfort & Co. Elstead Lighting has represented Feiss in the UK and Europe since 2012, adapting its designs, including English Bridle, for 220 to 240V wiring. English Bridle itself takes its inspiration from the English countryside and the coach lanterns of a traditional stately manor, offered in British Bronze or Black to suit softer or more graphic garden schemes.
