A flush backed lantern for tighter spaces

The Cotswold Lane 2 light half wall lantern has a flat back designed to sit close against the wall, making it a useful option where a full, deep lantern would stick out too far, such as beside a narrow porch or a tight side passage. It keeps the same antique gas lantern styling as the rest of the range, with architectural moulding over clear bevelled glass.

Finished in black, it has the same formal, traditional look as the rest of the Cotswold Lane collection, and the clear bevelled glass adds the same touch of sparkle. Its shallower, flush backed profile is the main thing that sets it apart from the standard wall lanterns in the range.

How it works

This lantern doesn't come with bulbs, so you'll need to add two to your order. As with any outdoor fitting, we'd recommend a registered NICEIC electrician handles the installation and checks the wall mounting and cable entry are properly weathersealed.

Where it works best

With an IP44 rating, it's suited to covered outdoor spots such as porches and canopied entrances rather than positions left fully exposed to driving rain. Its slimmer profile suits narrower porches, side passages or anywhere a projecting lantern would be impractical.

The story behind Feiss

Before it became part of Visual Comfort & Co, Feiss was a family business three generations in the making, founded in 1955 when Murray Feiss began wiring imported European porcelain figurines into lamp bases in the South Bronx, his mother Rose hand sewing the shades. That grounding helped the brand become one of America's best known names in decorative lighting, across chandeliers, pendants, wall lights and outdoor fittings, and since 2012 its designs have reached the UK and Europe via Elstead Lighting, adapted for 220 to 240V wiring, this half wall lantern from the Cotswold Lane range among them. Cotswold Lane takes its cue from the antique gas lantern, its architectural moulding above each pane of bevelled glass giving it a more formal, traditional character than some of Feiss's plainer outdoor designs.
