The Tamashi is an outdoor wall lantern built around a clean, upright box shape that suits both traditional and contemporary exteriors. A slim aluminium frame holds clear glass on all four sides, wrapping a single exposed bulb so the light sits fully on show, like a pared back take on the classic coach lantern. It is understated enough to sit quietly beside a front door, yet distinctive enough to bring a little character to a plain wall.

The dark grey finish

This version wears a soft dark grey, an anthracite tone that reads almost charcoal against pale render and stone and settles easily alongside slate roofs, grey window frames and modern grey composite doors. The frame is aluminium, a light and naturally corrosion resistant metal that copes well with damp British weather, while the clear glass keeps the bulb in full view. Its slim single lantern form, roughly 25.6cm tall and 8.5cm wide, keeps it in proportion on narrower wall spaces such as the sides of a doorway or the piers of a porch.

How it works

Tamashi is a wall mounted fitting that takes one E27 bulb of up to 15 watts. The bulb is not included, so you can choose the look you prefer, and a warm LED filament lamp will show off the glass box beautifully while keeping running costs low. It is not dimmable. The lamp runs on mains voltage and is hardwired, so Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where it works best

With its IP65 rating, the Tamashi is protected against dust and jets of water, which means it is happy in open, uncovered positions as well as sheltered ones and will take full exposure to rain. Mount it either side of a front or back door, run it along a garden path, set it on a terrace or patio wall, or place it beside a garage or on the façade of the house. A pair positioned symmetrically around an entrance gives a smart, welcoming look, while a run of them can light a longer stretch of boundary or courtyard wall.
