A slim up and down light that frames an entrance
The Faro Steps is a slim twin cylinder outdoor wall light that throws light both up and down from one compact fitting. Two short tubes sit side by side on a neat rectangular back plate, one casting a beam skyward and one washing down the wall, so a single point gives you two layers of light. It is the kind of quietly architectural exterior fitting that frames an entrance or grazes a façade without shouting for attention in daylight.
The dark grey finish
This is specifically the dark grey version, a textured anthracite powder coat over a die cast aluminium body. The matt, faintly grained surface keeps glare and reflections down in bright sun and reads as calm and contemporary rather than glossy or industrial. The deep grey settles easily against render, brick, natural stone and timber cladding, and holds its own on darker painted walls where a black fitting would disappear. A clear tempered glass diffuser closes each end, protecting the lamp while letting the beams through cleanly. The Steps is offered in other finishes too, so if you are matching existing fittings this listing is the dark grey.
How it works
The Steps is an up and down wall light taking two GU10 bulbs, one firing upward and one downward, so the effect is entirely in your hands through the bulbs you choose, from a warm cosy glow to a crisper daylight white. The bulbs are replaceable and are not included, which lets you pick the colour temperature and output to suit the setting, and it accepts GU10 lamps of up to 8W each. This fitting is not dimmable. This is a hardwired mains fitting, so Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where it works best
The twin beams make the Steps a natural choice for framing a front door, lining a path or driveway, or adding rhythm along a garden wall, terrace or exterior elevation. Mounted in pairs or in a run it builds an even, architectural wash of light up and down a façade, and the understated dark grey keeps the fittings recessive by day while the light does the work by night. With its IP44 rating it is protected against splashing water from any direction, which suits walls, porches and other exterior positions exposed to normal weather rather than sustained hosing or flooding.
Designed for Faro Barcelona
The Steps was designed by Estudi Ribaudí for Faro Barcelona, the Spanish lighting company based near Barcelona that develops its own outdoor collections with a focus on durable materials such as die cast aluminium and tempered glass. The result is a fitting engineered for life outdoors as much as for its looks.

Questions People Ask
What does the IP44 rating on the Faro Steps 2 Light mean for outdoor use?
IP44 means the Faro Steps 2 Light is protected against splashing water from any direction, which suits walls, porches and other exterior spots exposed to normal weather rather than sustained hosing or flooding.
How far does the Faro Steps 2 Light project from the wall?
The Faro Steps 2 Light has a depth of around 10cm, so it sits close to the wall rather than jutting out into a doorway or path.
Can the Faro Steps 2 Light be mounted in pairs either side of a door?
Yes. The Faro Steps 2 Light is often fitted in pairs to frame a front door or in a run along a garden wall, since its up and down beam works well repeated at intervals.
What bulbs does the Faro Steps 2 Light take, and are they included?
The Faro Steps 2 Light takes two GU10 bulbs, one facing up and one facing down, each rated up to 8W. The bulbs are not included, so you can choose the colour temperature and brightness yourself.
