The Seth 280 is a compact garden spike light from Faro Barcelona, made to pick out the parts of an outdoor space worth looking at once the light goes. A slim cylindrical head sits on an adjustable knuckle above a pointed ground spike, so you can push it straight into a border or lawn and aim the beam exactly where you want it. The black finish and 280mm height

This is the shorter 280mm version of Seth, in a deep matt black that recedes into planting and hard landscaping by day. The body is aluminium with a PMMA lens, a combination chosen to stand up to outdoor life, and at 280mm tall with a narrow 40mm head it stays discreet enough to tuck close to a specimen plant or object without competing with it. That makes the black 280 a natural choice where you want the light seen but not the fitting. A taller model in the same family is available if you need to cast light from higher up.

How it works

Seth 280 uses an integrated 6W SMD LED, so there is no bulb to buy or replace. It gives a warm 2700K colour through a focused 40 degree beam, and Faro states an output of around 450 lumens, well judged for accenting rather than flooding an area. The LED is not dimmable. The adjustable head tilts and rotates once the spike is sited, and the fitting is supplied with its driver for a 220 to 240V mains supply, with a trailing cable to connect. As a mains powered fitting, Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where it works best

This is a spike for uplighting and accenting. Angle it up the trunk of a tree, graze it across textured render or brickwork on a façade, or set it low to highlight sculpture, a planted border or a garden feature. It sits happily along paths, in flower beds, on terraces and around driveways, wherever a single well placed pool of warm light adds depth after dark. Group several across a larger garden to build layered outdoor lighting.
