A Ring of Nine Lights With a Fading Smoked Glass

Kingfisher gathers nine bulb holders into a wide circular frame, finished in black with glass that fades from smoke at the edges through to a lighter tone toward the middle. It's a big fitting built for equally big spaces, throwing a wide, even spread of light rather than one concentrated glow, and at 65cm across it's designed to be seen as well as switched on.

Choosing Your Finish

This version pairs black metalwork with the smoke fade glass, so the colour shift in the glass shows up clearly against the dark frame. Kingfisher is produced in other finishes too, so there's room to pick a different combination if black isn't the tone you want in your room.

How It Works

Nine E27 bulbs, up to 20W each and not supplied, sit around the circular frame, spreading light evenly rather than pooling it in one place. Fitting it requires an adaptor. It runs on Class II wiring, so there's no need for an earth connection, and it will dim if you use dimmable bulbs with a compatible dimmer switch. The IP20 rating means it belongs in dry rooms only.

Where It Works Best

This pendant is suited to dining rooms, hallways and stairwells, the kind of spaces with enough height and floor area for a 65cm fitting to sit comfortably. Hung over a large dining table it becomes the room's centrepiece, and in a stairwell or double height hallway it can fill a lot of visual space that would otherwise sit empty. Its IP20 rating rules out bathrooms and any room prone to damp.

Design Details

Arranging nine bulbs in a ring keeps the light spread wide rather than letting it drop straight down in one column. The smoke fade glass adds most of the character, shifting in tone from edge to centre so the fitting looks slightly different depending on the angle you're viewing it from.
