Endon Arlo Floor Lamp - Matt Black & Rattan 52cm Dark Rattan Shade

A Slim Black Floor Lamp Under A Wide Rattan Shade

The Arlo floor lamp is about as simple as a floor lamp gets, a slender matt black stem on a round base, topped here with a generous 52cm hand crafted rattan shade in a warm brown tone. The contrast between the thin dark stem and the broad woven shade is what makes it work, and it brings a relaxed, natural feel to a corner without taking up much floor space.

Matt Black Steel And Hand Woven Dark Rattan

The base and stem are steel in a matt black finish, with a weighted circular foot that keeps the lamp stable. The shade is woven by hand from rattan in a coolie shape, wide at the bottom and narrow at the top, in a warm brown colourway that Endon calls dark rattan. Because it is a natural material, the weave lets small points of light through and the exact shade of brown varies a little from piece to piece.

How It Works

This is a freestanding, plug in floor lamp. It takes one E27 screw fitting LED bulb, which is not supplied, and it is not dimmable. There is an inline foot switch on the 2 metre black braided cable, so you can turn it on and off without reaching for the lamp holder. The stem comes in three sections that screw together, and the shade sits on top. The lamp is supplied with a European two pin plug and a UK three pin adapter.

Where It Works Best

Standing 160cm tall, the Arlo sits comfortably beside a sofa or armchair, where the wide shade throws a soft pool of light downwards for reading. It also works in a bedroom corner or a home office. The black and rattan pairing suits Scandinavian, coastal and modern rustic rooms, and sits well with pale woods, linen and off white walls.

Made By Endon Lighting

The Arlo is designed by Endon Lighting, a British brand with more than 80 years of lighting design behind it. Its UK based design team builds many of its ranges around a plain base that can be paired with different shades, and the Arlo is one of those, a contemporary stem that takes a woven rattan shade here but could just as easily carry linen or cotton.
