Elstead Winchester Single Wall Down Lantern 335mm - Black

A traditional lantern, scaled down

The Winchester Single is the smaller of Elstead's two Winchester wall down lanterns, carried on a single curled scroll bracket rather than the twin scroll arm of the larger version in the same range. The lantern head hangs just below the bracket, angled so its light spills downward and outward from a doorway or gate post.

Black die cast aluminium

The lantern is finished in black painted die cast aluminium, with a peaked roof and a cross barred frame holding textured glass panels on all four sides. The glass has a rippled, hammered texture that breaks up the bulb's light into a soft, diffused glow rather than a hard beam, giving the fitting a traditional, slightly weathered character even when new.

How It Works

A single E27 lamp holder sits inside the lantern head, fed through the scroll bracket from a separate wall fixing plate mounted flat against the wall. The fitting is rated Class I, so it must be properly earthed, and we always recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation. Fit a dimmable E27 bulb and the lantern will work with a dimmer switch. The bulb itself is not included.

Where It Works Best

At 335mm high, the Winchester Single is scaled for narrower spots, either side of a front door where a larger fitting would crowd the frame, on a porch pillar, or mounted on a gate post or garden wall. Its IP43 rating suits a sheltered exterior position such as under a porch canopy rather than full open exposure to driving rain.

Do I need an electrician to install this lantern? Yes. The Winchester Single is wired directly into the wall via a separate fixing plate and is Class I, so it must be properly earthed. We always recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation.

Is the Winchester Single wall lantern dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A non dimmable bulb will not dim even on a dimmer switch circuit.
