A lantern that hangs rather than sits

Most of the Winchester range fixes flat to a wall or ceiling. This version is different: it swings gently from its own black chain, giving it more the presence of a hall lantern than a fixed porch light. The same square, cross barred glass panels and pyramid roof carry over from the rest of the range, but the drop changes how the light reads at the door.

The frame is die cast aluminium finished in black, paired with textured glass panels on all four sides. Because the glass wraps the whole lantern rather than sitting behind a single pane, light spreads outward in every direction instead of throwing a single beam. The cross bar detailing across each panel echoes a traditional window pane, giving the fitting a slightly period character.

How It Works

The lantern hangs on an adjustable chain, giving a drop of between roughly 40cm and 52.5cm, so it can be set to a sensible head height above a porch or entrance. Inside sits one E27 lamp holder, suited to an LED E27 bulb; no bulb is included. As a Class I fitting it needs a proper earth connection, so installation by a qualified electrician is recommended rather than optional.

Where It Works Best

The hanging drop makes this version suited to a recessed porch or covered entrance with enough headroom to let the lantern swing without becoming a hazard to anyone tall walking underneath. It also suits a covered side door or a sheltered outbuilding entrance, where a flush or wall mounted lantern would look too flat against the space.
