The Victoria wall lantern arrives already looking lived in. Its stepped brass roof and glazed box sit somewhere between an old coach lantern and a Georgian street light, so it reads as a genuine period fixture rather than a modern reproduction bolted above a door.

The verdigris finish

This is the Victoria in Verdigris, solid brass treated to a mottled green and bronze patina rather than left bright or lacquered. No two lanterns wear the patina in quite the same pattern, so a little variation in tone from piece to piece is part of the finish rather than a flaw, and it will keep softening and shifting gently the longer it sits outside.

How It Works

A single E27 lamp holder sits inside the glazed box, so the Victoria is built for one bulb rather than a cluster, and an LED lamp works well since none is included. Clear glass runs along all four sides of the box, which throws light sideways and forward rather than straight down, useful for a lantern fixed at head height beside a door. It's built for a fixed wall mount rather than a hanging chain, and runs on mains power through a Class I earthed connection.

Porches, side doors and garden walls are the natural fit, anywhere that benefits from a fixed point of light that still looks the part switched off in daylight. Its proportions suit a single doorway best. For a wider entrance, two lanterns fixed either side of the opening reads better than one trying to cover the whole facade. With an IP44 rating, it's built to handle a covered or partially exposed spot outside.
