Elstead Stow Single Wall Lantern - Old Bronze

A lantern built like it guards a gate

The Stow is a tall, narrow wall lantern with a distinctly medieval shape, a domed chimney top, a ball finial, small vent holes underneath, and a hammered panel on the roof where a carried lantern might once have had a handle. It looks more like something taken down from a castle gate than ordered from a catalogue.

Old bronze finish

The wrought iron frame is finished in a deep, almost black toned bronze, holding four panes of seeded glass. Bubbles and ripples run through the glass, breaking the light into something softer and more textured than a plain, flat beam.

How It Works

One E27 LED bulb sits inside on a wall bracket visible through the glass. The fitting is wired to Class I standard, so it needs an earthed supply, and we always recommend a qualified electrician for the install. Fit a dimmable bulb and it will dim on a compatible circuit. No bulb is included.

Where It Works Best

At 45cm tall but only around 11cm across, Stow is built for pairs either side of a front door, exactly as shown flanking a studded oak entrance on a stone farmhouse and a painted period door dressed for winter. Its narrow footprint also suits gate piers or a boundary wall, anywhere a tall, upright shape works better than a wide lantern. With an IP44 rating, it copes well in these open, exposed positions.

Does the Stow lantern come with a bulb? No, it takes one E27 bulb which is not included, so you can choose the LED bulb and light temperature that suits the space.

Is the Stow lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes. It is IP44 rated, which covers exposed positions such as a front door, porch or gate pier.

Can the Stow lantern be dimmed? Yes, as long as it is fitted with a dimmable bulb. A non dimmable bulb will not respond to a dimmer switch.
